About BongoPay

BongoPay is a payments service for businesses in Tanzania. It lets you take mobile money payments through a link or through our API, and keeps a record of every payment for you. It's built and run by Bongofey.

Why it exists

Most people in Tanzania pay with mobile money, but taking those payments as a business is harder than it should be. A shop that sells on Instagram ends up sharing a personal number and checking SMS messages one by one. A developer has to deal with each network separately.

BongoPay puts all of that behind one link and one API. Your customer pays with M-Pesa, Airtel Money, Mix by Yas (Tigo Pesa) and HaloPesa, and you see every payment, with its reference number, in one dashboard.

Settled by SelcomPayments are processed and settled by Selcom, a licensed payment service provider.

Accounts are reviewedWe check each business's NIDA and TIN before it can take live payments.

Withdrawals are checkedEvery withdrawal is reviewed before the money is sent out.

Everything is recordedPayments, withdrawals and account changes are all logged.

What BongoPay is not

Not a bank

We don't take deposits or pay interest. Your balance is money waiting to be withdrawn.

Not a lender

We don't offer loans or credit.

Not selling your data

We use your details to run your account and meet legal requirements, and that's all. See our privacy policy.

Not for every business

Some businesses can't use BongoPay. The prohibited businesses list explains which.
